I love fashion, but not like most girls love fashion. I love picking bits and pieces of current trends and pairing them with vintage pieces, and just creating my own look. Growing up in Alaska didn’t leave much room for fashion forward clothing, seeing as it was cold and rainy most of the time. But because my dad lived in Florida, I was able to express myself during the summer, and I always went home with some pretty trendy pieces of clothing. And shoes. I had some pretty sick shoes.
When I found myself living back in the south permanently, I became much more interested in runway and trade shows where I could be up close and personal with new fashion and sultry models. Charleston Fashion Week is held in Charleston, SC which is one of my favorite cities in the south. The people are extremely friendly, the food is divine, the charm is magical, and the fashion? Southern, simple, elegant, classy.
Charleston Fashion week is held in Marion Square and runs from March 18 – March 22 so it’s creepin’ up on us! Luckily, Charleston Fashion Week tickets are stil available, but get yours fast because you don’t want to miss out on the events. Believe it or not, Charleston Fashion Week is one of the premier fashion weeks in the nation and features high-end runway shows, interactive entertainment, chic after-parties, and press events. 200 models were narrowed down from an applicant pool of 800, and will be showing off the designs of celebrated talent in the fashion industry.
My favorite part of the whole event is that 20 emerging fashion designers will be competing to win a prize package valued at $20, 000 in the Emerging Designer Competition. The winner will be judged by a VIP panel headed up by Fern Mallis, and some of the featured designers from the show.
I don’t live far from Charleston, and I’m lucky enough to have friends there. This is such an exciting event for the south, and I love seeing what is on the horizon in fashion. Staying just ahead of the trends has been something I’ve always loved doing. Like those sticky eye gems from 1998? Remember those? One of my favorite trends in makeup EVER! Can’t we bring that back?
Check out Charleston Fashion Week on Twitter and Instagram to keep up with the events, but more than anything, make sure you take your butt down there to see what the rage is. This is seriously an event you don’t want to miss, in a city that will show you what southern hospitality is ALL about.
