Raise your hand high if you love having Aunt Flo visit you once a month. How about those months she visits twice? It’s like getting paid three times in a month, but not quite as exciting, and the currency she leaves isn’t one that’s traded on the stock market. Unfortunately. If you could use menses residue as currency, I’d be loaded. I’d be filthy stinkin’ rich. I think it’s safe to say I’d be in the 1%.
I create so much fluid during my period that I have nothing to compare it to. I will say that during days 2 and 3, if I don’t wake up looking like I’m doing a snow angel in a murder scene, it’s a bloomin’ miracle. Lucky for you, if you come stay at my house, you don’t get to use the same sheets that go on my bed. You get different sheets. You’re welcome.
Feminine Care Products that really work? You don’t say?
I don’t know how doctors get off saying, “You only lose about 35mL of blood during each menstrual cycle.” C’mon. First of all, let’s call it what it is. It’s a bloomin’ period. Second, Lies. I soak one of those Paper Towel Roll-sized tampons in less than an hour on days 2 – 3 of my 8 – 9 day cycle. What’s a girl supposed to do? I can’t very well walk around with a bucket between my legs. And that whole free bleeding thing? Nothanks.
What a girl’s supposed to do is find a good pad that works for her, so that she has a little backup when the mighty tampon fails. I’ve gone through every girly product on the market, and very few hold my flow. Luckily for me, there’s U by Kotex , which does the trick, in a super comfortable way no less. Not that having a period is ever comfortable, but you know, as comfortable as it gets! I love the U by Kotex AllNighter Overnight Pads for all day wear on days 2 – 3. That’s as close to free bleeding as I’m gonna get.
Before finding the ultra absorbent U by Kotex AllNighter Overnight Pads, I had to double up on my pads at night so that I wasn’t swimming against the flow when I woke up in the morning. I haven’t had to do that with the U by Kotex AllNighter Overnight Pads . They really do hold me through the night, as long as I get them in my undies well enough.
I know, I know. Shocked I wear undies? Where else am I supposed to hang my pad?
For gals with a more normal flow, the Regular absorbency and tween pads are perfect. To make things even more appealing, they come in extremely cute colors, so you don’t have to worry about pulling a neon green package out of your purse when you’re headed to the restroom. Nothing screams, “SHE’S ON HER PERIOD” like a blinking neon green light in your hand, right?
For those active days where a tampon is absolutely necessary, the U by Kotex tampons are my FAVORITE. I have this really embarrassing problem. Run for the hills if the “V” word makes you uncomfortable, OK? OK. Sometimes when I’m putting a tampon in, the applicator gets kinda lost in my vagina because it slips out of my fingers. That’s just what happens when things are a little slippery down below, right? Right. Well, apparently I’m not the only girl in the world that this happens to, because U by Kotex tampons have this awesome grip on their tampons, right where you hold the tampon to insert it. I haven’t lost an applicator since I switched brands. I’m sold. I no longer have to go fishing when I’m on my period. Unless you count eating a tuna salad for lunch fishing. Plus, these tampons don’t expand to be the size of a paper towel roll. They’re very slim, yet super absorbent, and I noticed that my cramps were much less intense than they normally are which is a total bonus.
I’m sure you’re wondering how well they do during intense activities like Zumba or kickboxing? They’re amazing. There was no slippage and I truly didn’t feel it hanging out in there during my Zumba shake-a-thon. I also went for a run with one of the regular absorbency tampons in and I was FINE. Everything was comfortable, stayed in place, and absorbed everything I wanted it to absorb.
So if you’re a heavy flow gal, you can rest assured that U by Kotex has you covered. And if you’re one of the lucky babes with a regular or light flow, they’ve got your number too. Want to try them yourself? Request a sample!
So tell me, because I’m totally curious: Where were you when you got your first EVER period?
I wrote this review while participating in a content series through Crowdtap on behalf of U by Kotex, and received products to facilitate my post and compensation for my time to participate.

OMG, I was a the skating rink when I started, but I was happy to see it because I had been having the cramps and symptoms for years! For the past couple of months I have been having a heavier flow and I think it’s time to adjust my “routine” a little. I’ll request a sample and see what I think!

They are seriously so great. I accidentally left a tampon in all night last night (I was feverish and just forgot) and my vaj didn’t hurt when I woke up this morning which is NOT normal. A total WIN for me!

I was sitting on the couch watching Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman when things didn’t quite feel right.
Before I had my endometrial ablation done, I used to have to wear a tampon and a pad at night.

At the mall… with all my friends… I screamed like, well, like a girl. I was 12. My friends had to go to the payphone to call my mom (pre-cells even!) and she came prepared. But OMG… 3 boys, 2 girls and me screaming. In the mall bathroom. Awesome 🙂
And… the ‘rip it open’ thing you just did with your mouth!!! I couldn’t love anyone more than I love you right.this.second!

It was my 11th birthday. i was getting ready for school, I was in the bathroom washing up for the day and looked down and seen red… I was not quite sure what was wrong, or if something was wrong. I went into my moms’ room and asked her a series of questions regarding what I just saw and then she said, ” Oh, Honey you are on your period, Have fun with that wonderful time of your life!!”, Then after that she said, ” OMG(shortened version), It’s your BIRTHDAY, Mama is soooo sorry”. Well, happy Birthday to me, even birthday since then I celebrate the fact that it is an anniversary of my First Period!!!
Summer says
OH NO! That’s hilarious! I’m glad mine wasn’t on my birthday. That can’t be a good present at all!

Oh my word first I love your blog you are GREAT! Ok so this is so embarrassing to admit but I was also 11 when I started my period. I unfortunately was a very sheltered child and did not know about the birds and the bees yet so you think you freaked out? I thought I was literally dying! I’m bleeding out of my va jay jay and I have no clue why. I’m of course not at home I’m visiting family and I’m screaming in the bathroom like a crazy person. I finally let my mom in and she laughs at me because I’m freaking out. I mean what mom does that? I mean looking back I laugh now because I’m looking like a psycho screaming thinking my insides are about to fall out and I’m going to die in a matter of minutes. Ok so here is where it gets really gross and super embarrassing. No one had anything but a tampon I mean seriously who knew I was going to start my period at 11 right? So I’m freaking out my mom has the sex talk with me and NOW I have to stick this stick thing where? No this was not happening! So in my freak out mode my mom is tired of me being the drama queen that I am she puts it in for me!!!!! How gross is that? I wanted to die literally. At that point I was just hoping my insides were falling out and I would be in Heaven in the next hour and all this talk of a period would be over! But sadly no TOM comes each month at least once but thankfully I can insert my own tampons now and I try and forget that traumatic experience until today so thanks for that ha ha Just Kidding! I hope I made someone laugh because that’s all you can do with a story like mine!

OH MY GOSH Carley, that made me laugh SO hard! If it makes you feel any better, my mom had to insert my first tampon too, but I waited until I was 14. She didn’t get it in all the way and it was uncomfortable. I tried to pull it out but it seemed like my vagina had an iron grip on that thing. I was crying to she came in to pull it out which made me scream in pain and it was just awful. I didn’t try a tampon again until I was 16. True story.
