When The Workaholic talks about going on a beach vacation, I groan, roll my eyes, and promise to spend as much money on day to day activities and items as I possibly can so that we don’t have the extra money for vacation. The thought of laying on a beach for a week straight bores me to tears.
While I was in Destin, I realized that vacation doesn’t have to be a series of lazy activities. There were so many water sport things to do at the Emerald Grande Harbor Walk Village that you could get a full-on work out every day without even trying.
How to Exercise Effortlessly While on Vacation
1. Paddleboarding
Unfortunately for us, the weather wasn’t very cooperative and it was too windy to go Paddleboarding , which was a total bummer because it is one of the things that I was really looking forward to. The weather cleared up the day that everyone was set to depart, but a couple of people had the opportunity to go that day, while others of us had 12 hour drives back home and had to leave before the sun rose.
2. Jet Skiing
Jet skiing is another extremely fun, super fast, exhilarating water sport that will give you a workout without you even knowing it. Holding tight to the handlebars while you speed over the water for two hours is going to give your arms AND legs an unexpected surprise.
3. Dancing/Nightlife
Going on the Adults Only Buccaneer Pirate Cruise , to dinner at Crab Island Cantina , to Coyote Ugly for dancing OR a ride on their mechanical bull, or simply taking an iPod an a speaker to the beach are a few more great ways to get a workout while on vacation in Destin, Florida. The Buccaneer Pirate Cruise, Crab Island Cantina, and Coyote Ugly all have music that will get your booty moving. I twerked it and wobbled all over the place and my thighs were muy happy. If you know how to do it right, you can get your abs engaged too. If you’ve never wobbled on the beach, you’re missing out. The balance that it takes to wobble in the soft sand works your entire body. Dance is great exercise. If you’re not in on it yet, hop in and start wobbling.
4. Snorkeling/Snuba
Snorkeling sounds like a lazy activity to me. You’ve got fins on and it doesn’t take much effort to move through the water. OH boy was I WRONG. I snorkeled for well over an hour then did snuba for about 30 minutes. I then swam back from the point to the boat. Never once did I feel like I was exercising. My entire body felt great the next day and it made me realize that I need to spend more time in the pool swimming laps if I want to work on my whole body fitness.
So don’t be lazy on vacation (or in my case, Brandcation). Get moving! Then splurge on dessert at dinner. Yum.
