They have never felt anything quite as amazing as the reception they received at D23 Expo when The Avengers Infinity War was announced.
Karen: Oh, it was amazing.
Pom: It was incredible, yeah. I mean, I think it was 7,000 people.
Karen: It felt electric to have like 7,000 people passionate about something that you’re involved with in some way, and it’s just like totally different sensations to anything I’ve ever experienced. It felt electric.
They saw the footage on set before it was shown at D23 Expo, and they’re completely in the dark about the plot line, they haven’t even seen a full script!
Karen: We can’t say much about the film because they’re so secretive and I didn’t even get a full script, so I’m just shooting scenes that I don’t know what the context is, and where it fits into the story.
Pom: Yeah, I have to harass them like every day to get the script, and then I can read it and then I have to, to give the iPad back. You know, there’s a password and it’s really, it’s really secretive.
Working with the Russo brothers was pretty great, but James Gunn had some influence where the Guardians are concerned in the Avengers: Infinity War.
Karen: It’s, you know, it was an interesting, like we had to adapt, I guess, because we’ve only ever made anything Guardians related with James Gunn, and he created these characters and it was very much a collaboration with James in terms of bringing these characters to life. So then to sort of work with completely new directors was a different sensation, but it was also cool because they have something else to add to the table, another perspective on everything and, um, and also it was cool ’cause like for the first time, it’s like oh, we don’t know these characters the best now. It’s like okay, let’s do this.
Pom: I was kind of scared at the beginning because we have a great relationship with James Gunn, and he’s an amazing director and he’s really close to his actors. We created this character together, so I was concerned – how is it going to be to work with someone else? Am I gonna do the right things? So it was kind of stressed out, but actually when we’re on set, it went really great.
Karen: The Russo Brothers are amazing.
Pom: They’re really, really amazing and they really complete each other. It was incredible to get to work with these incredible actors; Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, best gig ever.
They love how well received Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 was by its fans.
Karen: I feel like it’s been received really well by the fans. When we were making it, it definitely felt like we were making something special, and everyone was delivering and, it just felt like everything that was so good about the first film was kind of amplified in the second film. So I feel like we took it to the next level. And it would seem that the fans agree with that which is always the most important thing, so that’s cool.
Kids are a little nicer to Karen now that Mantis isn’t such a crazed lunatic in GotGV2
Karen: Kids are willing to take pictures with me now, so I’m happy.
Karen’s glad that Marvel is letting her look like a woman who has hair now.
Karen: I’m not shaving anymore because Marvel has been very kind to me and they’re allowing me to look like a woman now, so I’m really pleased about that. Look at this mane! We’re in filming right now!
Karen loves her ragey character and Pom loves her innocent one
Karen: I really like the fact that my character can fight so well, and I really like that she is just like riddled with rage. I mean, it’s just overflowing, um, and it’s just, I mean, it’s just the most rage ever, um, and she’s got serious daddy issues which is just like the cool feel for the rage, and I just like embodying that.
Pom: I love Mantis’ innocence, you know. It’s kind of refreshing, and it brings a lot of funny moments, too, because she doesn’t know, you know. She she tries things and she discovers things and it’s kind of funny, it’s kind of funny to play, you know. It’s like an animal a little bit. I like, you know, the fact that she’s, I don’t know, weird, yeah.
Taking makeup off is the best sensation in the world to Karen
Karen: Taking the makeup for Nebula off is like the best sensation ever, like it’s worth going through that to have that.
It’s about freaking time that little girls have strong women to look up to.
Karen: I feel like it’s about time. I mean, we’ve been craving this for a long time, and with everyone in the Marvel universe and also Wonder Woman, I mean, it just like it feels like there’s a real movement of strong women.
Pom: And Captain Marvel, too. I can’t wait.
Karen: It’s all different types of women, too.
Pom: Yeah, yeah, completely, you can see the bad ass and really strong characters like Karen’s character or like my character, she’s more innocent and weird and, you know, it’s okay to be either of, you know, these characters.
Karen: Yeah, like not every woman needs to be like kick ass and stern.
There’s something sexy about not wearing revealing costumes
Pom: I Love the costumes that we wear, they’re not too revealing. They’re not too sexy and it’s great because sometimes in superhero movies, it’s like oh, you’re gonna wear a bikini and fight. Ah, okay. It doesn’t really make sense.
