Have you been thinking about traveling more often and considered buying an RV? You’re not alone. Millions of Americans own the vehicles. Whether you’re a family heading out on your first RV trip or a retired couple who just purchased your RV and begun planning your cross-country travels, there are a few quick tips that you’re going to want to follow to make your trip a success.
Do Your Research Before You Buy
Buying an RV is a big expense. You want to make sure you don’t just jump into it without researching the size of vehicle you want and the amenities you’d like to make sure it includes. Once you have that all nailed down, you can look into supplementing your savings with a loan to buy what you want. Look for loans in Laredo, TX or whatever city you live in.
Get to Know Your RV Ahead of Time
Since you have little experience on the road, it’s important to know your RV up, down, backward, and forwards before you take your first trip. Even if your motorhome is just a rental, you need to take the time to know how it works and to make sure that everything is working properly as well.
If you own your RV, you’re going to want to keep it in great shape by always inspecting it before you head out on a trip also. Make sure you winterize your vehicle if you plan to go somewhere during winter.
Make a Practice Run
As a beginner, you don’t want to head out on a cross-country trip before first making a practice run with a shorter trip. Figure out the type of terrain you’re going to be traveling on for the majority of your cross-country journey and take a short trip over similar terrain for practice. As a beginner, you need to know how hard it’ll be to change lanes, how to move around inside of the RV, and how to ascend hills, and even park for the night.
Don’t Wing your Journey
While it may be tempting to just jump into your RV and head out on the open road, it’s best to map out your journey. If you’re heading for three of the off-the-radar cities you’ve heard are amazing to visit, then do your research and plan your trip.
Be sure that you plan every detail. That includes mapping out how to get around areas that are known for heavy traffic, and knowing where you can’t take an RV is critical to having a good time on your trip and being safe at the same time.
Create a Set-Up Checklist
As a beginner RVer, you need a checklist for almost everything you do. Whether it’s the clothing you need to take along or what type of pots you need for your kitchen and outdoor cooking, it’s better to have a checklist to follow. The same holds true for setting up camp when you reach your destination. It’s not as easy as just pulling into a hotel and getting a room. There are things that need to be done in order to set up safely at a campsite and things that need to be done to ensure you’re following all the rules as well. After you’ve followed the tips above, you should be able to set out on the open road and have the time of your life, safely and with little to worry about when it comes to your RV.
These are just a few tips to help you when you’re a beginning RVer. Take your time, set things up right, and you and your vehicle will be able to hit the road in no time at all.
