I’ll never forget when I found out I was having a girl, I flipped a little bit. All I knew were boys and girls are notorious for their attitudes. I have enough attitude for my household, I really didn’t think there was enough for more. But on the other hand, I’m a big, huge fan of all things girly like pretty dresses, fancy hairstyles, and having fun fingernails. Then on the other hand, I am big, huge fan of all things sporty, and not such a huge fan of shoes or purses. I’m like most ungirly girly girl quite possibly ever.
Would I be able to parent a little girl? Boys are easy, but girls?
I’m afraid the answer is still a big, fat “I have no idea if I’m doing this right”, but I’m certainly trying my best.
Having three kids is really hard, especially when only one of them is a girl, and even more so when the eldest is 8 years older than the middle child. I’m often not sure I am cut out for this thing we’re doing, this family we’re growing. I lack patience, I work a lot, and the TV is my best babysitter.
I’ve felt the pressure of my lack of parenting recently and I know that things have to change. Madilyn’s attitude is through the roof and needs to be kept in check, Grady is more clingy than ever, and Styles is really suffering in school. Finding balance isn’t my forte, but I’m realizing that quality of time is, more often than not, better than quantity of time. I have three kids, I work from home, and my husband works a lot more than your average M-F, 9-5’er. So I’ve been finding little ways to get inside my kids hearts to let them know I love them tons. Each child is different, but I know what each of them love, so this shouldn’t be so hard, right?
Madilyn is the ultimate girly girl. She loves to play dress up, have her nails painted, and do her hair. She loves to sing and be the center of attention, and she loves a good tea party. I’m not trying to keep up with the Joneses. I’m really just trying to keep up with the needs of my own children, even if it means my dirty floor just kinda stays a little dirty, and the clothes don’t get folded as soon as they come out of the dryer.
This weekend, Madilyn and I spent some time making spiced candied nuts. While they were cooling and hardening up, we painted her fingernails to look like little Santa hats with our favorite fingernail polish, Piggy Paint.
I LOVE Piggy Paint.
One of the reasons it’s my favorite is because Madilyn likes to chew the polish off of her fingernails, and I’m not lookin’ for her to be all Chris Farley a la Tommy Boy from eating paint chips. It’s non-toxic, odorless, eco-friendly, hypoallergenic, and kid-friendly. It’s also made in the USA so you know you’re getting higher quality, good ingredients. Not that I ever recommend eating paint or fingernail polish, but this stuff is as safe as mud, in the event you do have a paint eating little diva running around your house.
I found these at Walgreens for only $5 per product. They also make a great stocking stuffer or fancy gift for all of your daughter’s girly friends.
Santa’s clothes nails are really easy, even on little fingers. You’ll need Piggy Paint in “Sometimes Sweet” (red), some white and black nail polish, some Piggy Paint nail polish remover, a cotton swab, a bobby pin, a paper towel, and some clean fingernails.
Paint your fingernails all red (Sometimes Sweet), and allow to dry.
Choose a different design for each fingernail.
For Santa’s Hat:
Dip your cotton swab into your white polish and dab lightly on a paper towel, then dot the swab onto the end of the fingernail.
Dip your cotton swab into your white polish again, then put a dab towards the middle on one side of your nail.
For Santa’s Belt:
Use a bobby pin dipped in black polish to draw a black belt buckle in the middle of a nail, then paint a black line on each side for the belt.
For Santa’s Sleeve:
Dip your cotton swab into your white polish then dab lightly on a paper towel, then dot the swab onto the end of the fingernail.
Use the bobby pin dipped in black polish to create one button toward the side of the nail, down by the fur trim.
For Santa’s Coat:
Dip your cotton swab into your white polish then dab lightly on a paper towel, then dot the swab onto the end of the fingernail.
Use the bobby pin dipped in black polish to dot three buttons down the middle of the finger
For Santa’s Boot:
Dip your cotton swab into your white polish then dab lightly on a paper towel, then dot the swab onto the end of the fingernail.
Use the bobby pin dipped in black polish to color in the nail so that it is all black underneath the fur trim of Santa’s pant leg.
To finish:
Use the other side of your cotton swab dipped in Piggy Paint nail polish remover to remove any polish from the cuticles.
Use Piggy Paint top coat to seal your designs.

OH you need to get a bunch of Piggy Paint for her stocking this year! She’ll love Santa forever and ever, amen.
When it comes to painting nails, I am horrible. But I have never seen Santa designs like these. They are too cute!! I’ve been wanting to go get a pedicure…if I do soon, I am so taking this photos to get them to make me some jolly toes!

I love the designs! Those are super cute 🙂
Thanks, Penelope! It was all her idea!
So cute! We are huge Piggy Paint fans and it is the first polish and remover that I bought for my daughter. I agree. With a nail biter I was too worried about toxic repercussions!
The remover takes a little longer than your standard acetone, but it’s so much safer. Totally worth the time.
I’ve been hearing about Piggy Paint for years. It’s so great for kids!
It’s fab for adults too, Marybeth!
I love the way you did these nails! My daughters would have a blast with these Peggy Paints! !! those are going to make some super fun stocking stuffers!
Thanks, Valerie! You need to get your daughter some Piggy Paints for sure!

WE LOVE Piggy Paint! My almost 9 yr old daughter has about 15 bottles of the stuff. Every month (it seems like it anyhow) we have Piggy Paint Polish Parties and have the greatest time coming up with cute designs. I love that this stuff doesn’t give me a massive headache when we use it.
Yes! I love that they don’t give us a headache either. It is such a great perk.
i don’t think I’ve ever seen Piggy Paint in the store. Loving the designs, so festive
Oh my daughter would love this! I wonder if my hands are steady enough to do the designs. Super cute.
That’s so cute.. I need her to come over and do my nails for me! I love it!

I’m glad to see this can be done on nails that are short like mine, I always feel bad with my super short nails but this looks good!
CUTE! These look like they would be the perfect stocking stuffer for my little girl. Going to have to pick some up and have a at home spa day!
