I’ve been reading some really funny posts about how much longer mom’s “to-do list” is than dad’s during the holidays, and they’re right, so as part of a sponsored post with Collective Bias, I thought I’d give you a little Christmas present: Creative gifts of indulgence.
Just thinking about my to-do list makes my heart palpitate and I want to start running for the hills. Then I remember how exhausting hill sprints are and I just sit on the sofa and dream of chocolate and sugar plums. For the past two years, I’ve worked really hard at becoming a healthier person. I come from a family full of people who have unhealthy relationships with food, and that bug bit me when I got pregnant with The Muffin. So for the past two years, my focus has become eating for nourishment and fuel. I also started working out again, and recently, running.
I’ve been running my butt off. Literally. It’s amazing what happens to a butt when you start running. I’d like to say I’m happy about these changes, but I think I’m going to have to add some squats to the routine to avoid Noassatol Syndrome, which I’ve never in my life had to deal with. Little did I know that as soon as you hit 30 and started running, you’d need to find the cure for it.
Anyways, sometimes (just sometimes), it’s OK to indulge yourself in some little premium snacks here and there. Just don’t blame Santa for shrinking your jeans and sweaters this year, OK? OK. Let’s get on with it. I’m talkin’ chocolate and nuts and ice cream – OH MY!
Here are my favorite Naughty & Nice snacks to indulge myself with this Holiday Season, all of which can be purchased from your local Walgreens’ Good & Delish line of good & delish snacks.
The Naughty
Aw, Nuts & “the Boob Toob”
Nothing is healthier than a handful of nuts, right? But take those same nuts, toss them with some vanilla & sugar, and you’ve got yourself one naughty little treat. Savor each mouthwatering morsel while you watch your favorite Winter Break reality TV show on the boob toob. If almonds tasted like this all the time, they wouldn’t be delicious, they’d be naughty.
Butter your Bread & Call it Short
The Workaholic’s family is from Scotland, and we are blessed to receive Scottish shortbread every year for Christmas. When we can’t get our fix ( and I’m too lazy to bake any ), these Good & Delish Scottish Shortbread cookies are delish dipped in some hazelnut spread. Or by itself with a spot ‘o tea. However you take it.
Did Somebody say “I Scream”?
No, No, that was definitely just me being caught red handed creepin on the freezer with a mouthful of love. “Hi Alex! I’ll take cookie dough & peanut butter cup ice cream for 300 calories, please.” Need Christmas present ideas ? Just back a semi truck of ice cream right into my house and I’ll be a happy little piglet.
It’s gettin’ Hot in Herrr
On the rare occasion that The Workaholic has a night off from work, we generally do what workaholic restaurant managers do on their nights off. We watch TV. And eat stuff. He likes bar food (imagine that). I like fancy food. This is what we indulge on when we want to feel fancy, and we don’t have to go too many steps farther than the Redbox kiosk right outside the Walgreens that’s 2.1 miles from our house.
The Nice
Coconut, take me away!
When I’ve just busted my butt on the treadmill or out on one of our gorgeous local trails, the last thing I want to do is kill my natural high with a carb crash. But like any good, self respecting woman, I sometimes need something cold, sweet, and creamy. And when I do, I want a Good & Delish Coconut Cream bar. They remind me of my high school friend, Ciara. We used to get these coconut pops from a little convenience store across & down the street from our high school. We called them “Big O Bars” as though we even knew what that meant at the tender age of 16. But they were amazing. AH-mazing. Just like these. They take me right back to 1998. All the way back.
Ain’t Nothin’ But a G-Free Thing, Baby!
Know what I love more than my kids? Don’t answer that. But I do love this gluten free granola. It’s crunchy, sweet, and a few pieces really help my energy level just before a run. It’s sweetened with honey and maple syrup. Did I mention it’s gluten free? And delish?
Dehydration is Only Good for Froots
. . . And I love that I can go get no sugar added dried fruit from Walgreens. It’s another great post-run snack, and perfect for when the pants are feelin’ a little snug from eating all of that shortbread.
Now excuse me while I run to the pantry to indulge a little more. . . .

Summer, you are hilarious!! 🙂 And I think you’re inspiring me to get off me butt and work it off. I just posted a YouTube tutor yesterday where I saw a back shot of me and was like, “Eww! That sooo doesn’t look attractive!” I almost didn’t post that part, but I guess I need the world to see I have a huge butt. Maybe it will spark me into stop growing mine. Lol!! 🙂

Ha!
But, seriously. Hill sprints ARE exhausting. For real.
These look like delicious indulgences, indeed. Especially those sugared almonds. Me? I’m a cheese fiend. Can’t ever get enough cheese. 🙂

a. I just cannot imagine dealing with Noassatol. Then again, I cannot imagine running either. So perhaps I’m safe.
b. I need me some of those almonds, STAT.
