Aging gracefully doesn’t mean you have to be satisfied with the status quo – I’ve partnered with Restylane ® Silk on this post to tell you what your options are.
I’ll never forget my mom standing in front of the mirror at about the age of 34, stretching the skin on her face, pulling it back toward the hairline trying to rid herself of smile lines and crow’s feet. I would stand there in awe at the fact she had anything at all to stretch, pull, or alter. I thought she was a vision – a flawless, beautiful vision.
I’ve always been so sure I’d want to age gracefully without the aid of any sort of shot in my face or plastic surgery. Actually, let me retract that, if someone were to offer me knee lipo in exchange for social media coverage, I’d totally take that, but everything else just seemed silly, unnecessary, and potentially Barbieified to me.
Until the fateful day I put my signature red lipstick on and the flipping lipstick started bleeding into the lines around my mouth I didn’t even know I had. I was absolutely HORRIFIED, you guys. This is the stuff grandmas are made of, not 33 year old young women. I’ve since turned 34, and while I try to say positive things about myself in front of my own daughter, the truth is that there are things that could use a little poking and prodding from time to time, and we are fortunate enough to live in an era where we can have those things done without looking like we’ve had worms implanted into our lips or have succumbed to shock therapies.
While I was in NYC in July, I was fortunate enough to attend the Restylane® Silk brunch where I learned about a lip-plumping option that is natural looking and allows you to kiss your significant other without feeling like they’re kissing a tootsie roll. I don’t know about you, but that’s a major win in my book.
Lips, like any other part of the face, age and begin to show a little wear and tear as you get older. Lips can become thinner, lose their shape, or *horrors* develop those vertical lines that lipstick likes to seep into. Restylane® Silk uses a smaller, smoother particle than other Restylane® products, which results in plumper, smoother lips. Restylane® Silk is the first and only FDA-approved product specifically designed for lip enhancement and the smoothing of wrinkles around the mouth in patients 21 years of age and older. Considering the fact that I’m 34, and well over 21, I think I’m a darned good candidate for a little lip smoothing.
In the mean time, I’ll settle for filling in the cracks with concealer, lining my lip with clear lip liner, followed by red lipliner, followed up with my bright red lipstick. Stay tuned in the next couple months, though. I might have to follow this up with a Restylane® Silk treatment and let you know how it goes.
