I have to give a Galaxy-sized thank you to Disney & Marvel Studios for hosting me during the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Event.
I wasn’t always a big SciFi or comic book movie lover. I first fell in love with Iron Man when I saw it at home shortly after it came out for home viewing. Then I had to devour all of the Marvel flicks that came out, because I was hooked. That’s all it took – that cocky billionaire philanthropist playboy – to get me hooked on comic book movies. But when Guardians of the Galaxy hit theaters, I was like, “really y’all? A talking raccoon? NoThanks.” Because truly? I didn’t know. I had NO idea. When I saw it, I GOT IT, and it became my favorite Marvel movie to date, that is, until I saw Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles last week.
I’m still undecided as to whether Volume 2 beats out the first movie, or if they tie, but whatever my decision ends up being, I can tell you that Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 has all the same emotions as the first film, but amplified. It will take you for a ride you’ll never want to get off of, that I can promise you.
But first, let’s talk red carpet. The carpet wound up being red plus blue, which equals purple. An interesting fact: My first red carpet event was The Jungle Book last April and the carpet was red. My second red carpet event was Moana in November and the carpet was blue. Then my third red carpet event was Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 and the carpet was purple. Coincidence? I think not.
I got all dolled up with some friends of mine who helped me decide against fake eyelashes and we all gathered in front of the hotel for pictures of our made-up-selves prom-style.
If you’re a regular, you know I’m on a spending freeze which means I couldn’t spend any money on a new dress, so I dug in my closet and pulled out my old LBD. It is extremely comfortable, and has a sheer panel in the front and back, so it’s also edgy but remains classy enough to wear in public. I didn’t give it a second thought, I immediately said yes to the dress and tossed it in my suitcase.
When we got to the event, we heard people calling Sylvester Stallone’s name and I thought, “What the heck is he doing here?” Sorry. not telling, but he was certainly there, looking as sly as ever.
I also saw Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn which was a total “the angels fell from heaven” moment. They’re classic icons, you guys! And Kurt Russell is just breathtaking. It’s like he walks around with a spotlight on. More on him during his interview article on May 8th.
One of my favorite sightings was seeing Twitch and Allison from “So You Think You Can Dance”. Allison is still my all-time favorite dancer from the show and I still think she should have won the second season. Twitch is another of my favorites from the show and the fact that they’re married with kids now is basically my favorite reality TV fact.

I’m not one for chasing celebrities down, although if I was a celeb I would want people to chase me down, but my friends Carol & Jana recognizedDavid Dastmalchian, whom they had previously interviewed and he recognized them back, so we got a cool pic with him. His pregnant wife took the picture and she was THE cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Her bump looked like a balloon under her dress and was totally adorable.
Inside the theater, they locked our phones up so we couldn’t take bootleg footage of the movie. Subsequently, I couldn’t prove that I was sitting in the second row and got to sit within a stone’s throw from the entire freaking cast (minus Bradley Cooper – darn him!). It was a very cool moment and I’m so glad I got to be part of it. Chris Pratt gave my friend Victoria from ABC Creative Learning a high five when he joined his wife, Anna Ferris in the audience which was so cool.
My other friend, Leanette gazed longingly at Vin Diesel who was sitting just behind us pretty much the entire movie. We were sitting directly in front of Sean Gunn (“Kraglin”) and his brother, James Gunn who directed the Guardians movies, along with a slew of other celebrities. On our way into the theater, I walked by Josh Gad and couldn’t help myself singing some “The Book of Mormon” as I walked by.
The movie was so much more than I ever thought it could possibly be. I hadn’t read any spoilers before going in, and didn’t want to, and I’m not going to provide you with any spoilers (yet). I laughed really hard, I almost cried (if you know me, you know that’s a really big deal – everyone around me was crying), I felt the feels, there was anticipation, longing, suspense, anger, and hope. The music is spot-on (of course), and the film is just absolutely beautiful.
Scroll forward to the 2 minute mark on this interview of James Gunn and look for my bright red hair!
I left the premiere feeling like I couldn’t believe I had to keep this all to myself because I cannot WAIT for people to see it.
Once again, it was a phenomenal experience that I can’t believe I had the honor to be part of, and I can’t wait for you all to go see the movie on May 5 in theaters everywhere.
