If you have fresh ruby red grapefruits on hand, squeeze those to use in this delicious gin cocktail. If not, any good grapefruit juice will work. We got these from my dad’s house last month and they’re still absolutely delicious and perfectly juicy.
I tried so hard not to suck all the juice out once we squeezed them.

This delicious gin cocktail is insanely easy to make, and even easier to double up if you’re making one for a friend.
I’ve never been a big fan of gin, but I found that if you purchase the right gin, it doesn’t taste like Christmas trees. My husband is the gin connoisseur in the family and his current favorite is Brooklyn Gin . In this gin cocktail, you need a good gin because there’s no simple syrup to cover a bad gin.
If you have any self respect whatsoever, you have a good gin in your liquor cabinet.
This recipe is as simple as combining gin, grapefruit juice, sage, & bitters in a shaker; shaking it like a salt shaker (or like a liquor shaker) and dumping the entire contents into a glass.
Shaking a recipe emulsifies it in a different way than stirring it, and changes the mouth feel of a drink as well. A shaken drink is often a little lighter and effervescent than a stirred drink, which is what we’re going for in this refreshing cocktail.
Freshca - a Fresh Gin & Grapefruit Cocktail
This cocktail has no added sugar and is a refreshing cocktail perfect for spring and hot summer days. Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and slapped sage make for a marriage made in cocktail heaven.
Ingredients
- 2 oz gin
- 1 oz grapefruit juice freshly squeezed
- 3 dashes bitters
- 2 sage leaves
- 1 lime wedge for garnish
- 1 sage leaf for garnish
Instructions

Combine all ingredients in cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and pour contents into a rocks glass. Garnish with fresh sage leaf and lime wedge.
