When I found out we were moving back to Florida, the first thing I thought was, “Yay! we’re going to be close to family!” and the second thing was “Great, I’m going to be stuck inside for 6 months out of the year!”
Look, I’m not a fan of sweating unless I’m working for that sweat. My dad used to say I was allergic to sweat, and while he’s not wrong, he’s kind of on the wrong track. I don’t mind sweating, I would just like to be moving while I’m sweating. I’d like to be able to put makeup on in the morning and not have it melt off of my face. I’d like to be able to wear skirts without having to worry about sweat dripping down my legs making it look like I’m in desperate need of a Poise pad. I would love to be able to sit outside and let my kids play while I sip a nice cocktail in the breeze.
HA! That’s funny. Breeze.
Despite the fact that we live near the beach, the Florida summers are stagnant and miserable. Long gone are the summers spent swimming in my dad’s pool. Long gone are carefree, make-up-less days. Instead, here are the blotchy skin, red-faced, sweating profusely, frizzy hair, I’m ready to pass out from heat exhaustion summers.
I actually enjoy being outside, so when this NewAir Outdoor Misting fan showed up on my doorstep, I did a little jig. I have to admit, I’m a bit of a slacker and it took me a week or so to get Kyle to put it together, so the littles got to it first. Madilyn thought she would take it upon herself to put the fan together and stick it outside for me. Yeah, um, it’s easy to put together, but it’s not easy enough for a 5 year old to put together.
Once Kyle sat down to put all the parts together, it took about 8 minutes, and the NewAir Outdoor Misting Fan was all ready to make its home on our front porch. You know, the front porch with the new hanging flowers that I’m already neglecting? Yeah, that front porch. The same front porch with the awesome new adirondack chairs. Wouldn’t it just look perfect with a cooler and a bottle of wine?
The fan is extremely easy to use, but my favorite part is that it is like those misting fans at the major theme parks, right in your own home. How often have you been standing in line at a theme park, right next to those fans, and thought, “Gee, it would be really nice to have one of these at home!”? EVERY time, right? Well, now you can have one at home and still be able to afford a trip to your favorite theme park.
The NewAir website says that the fan can cool down a 500sf area. While I cannot deny or confirm this claim, I can confirm that it does significantly cool down both our front and back porches. The head tilts, so that when I’m lounging on my adirondack chair, the fan works to cool me down while I’m sitting, then tilts back up so that when I’m standing, I can continue to enjoy the cool breeze. There are three speed settings on the fan. I haven’t needed the high setting yet, but it will be perfect for those 99* days here in Florida later on in the summer.
As we work our butts off to buy a house this summer, I’m daydreaming of sitting on our new {covered} back porch with a drink in hand, the back porch TV on, and the NewAir fan cooling my skin while my kids play outside in the heat. I absolutely cannot wait for my new outdoor oasis.
Now I just need to get the kids their own misting toy, because this one’s mine!

Yes, I’ve thought that EVERY time I’m by one of those at a theme park. I NEED one of these. Ha!

And now for less than $200 one of these can be YOURS! 🙂
