I am fortunate enough to live near a very large animal preserve where thousands of pets are rescued and rehomed each year. I’ve been to several birthday parties where the children didn’t want gifts for themselves, but instead donations for the animal preserve.
Not all children are so selfless, but when Grady turned two, we took him to the local pound to visit the doggies. He was, and still is, obsessed with furry friends, and ever since he could talk has said he wants to be a dog doctor. We couldn’t adopt a dog that day, but we went to visit and play with some of them and Grady had a great birthday. It really grew all of our hearts seeing the dogs and cats behind bars and we didn’t leave that day without leaving a donation.
Aside from donating my time to my children’s school and various after school activities, it’s sometimes hard to remember which organizations you want to give money to – there are so many of them.
Since Grady’s second birthday, we have added three furry friends to our family, a Great Dane named Pearl, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Sarge, and a Domestic Shorthair Cat named PopTart.
We have to buy Sarge’s food at PetSmart® because he’s diabetic and eats a prescription food, so naturally we also pick Pearl and Sarge’s food up at PetSmart too.
As though I needed one more incentive to get our food at PetSmart this year, they just released an incentive called Buy A Bag, Give A Meal™.
For every bag of dog or cat food purchased online AND at all its 1,500-plus stores across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, PetSmart will donate a meal to a pet in need. The program runs March 1-Dec. 31, 2017, and they expect to donate 60-million meals to pets in need. Read the PetSmart press release here for more information.
I love finding ways to give back to organizations I believe in by doing things I’m already doing, like buying pet food at PetSmart. We live in the boondocks so having the ability to order pet food at PetSmart.com saves us gas mileage and still allows us to help pets in need without having to fill our home with more animals. Thanks to the Buy A Bag, Give A Meal™ program from PetSmart , I can do just that. And because our three animals have three very different diets, we’ll be helping PetSmart donate LOTS of meals this year.
