The Nerd

Nerd, nerd, nerd, nerd is the word!  It’s a good thing being nerdy is cool, because my first born, Styles is my little nerd.  He is a straight A gifted student, a member of his middle school’s Chess Club, and an active participant in the Science Olympiad.  He’s one of the smartest kids I know but he has yet to find his common sense.  We’re hoping it shows up sometime soon.  Styles’ favorite word is “Mom” which he repeats constantly, often during the middle of a sentence when he’s just certain I’m not listening to the latest reenactment from whatever Halo tournament he has just finished playing.  Styles loves reading science fiction novels and comedies.  He also loves spending quality time with his XBox 360 and killing aliens in Halo.

Styles is about as athletic as Gumby but has recently expressed an interest in ice skating and playing hockey so that is our next venture.  Look out for updates on that as 2013 opens up.  He was born with a large Port Wine Stain on his face, which I have blogged about in the past.  It is my hope to bring more knowledge about hemangiomas to the general public and I will be writing about them and their impacts in the very near future.  He also struggles with ADHD and IS medicated.  I used to think ADHD was a discipline or diet problem, but I now know better.  I’ll be sharing more about this disorder in the future as well.

Styles and I spent 5 years alone and it was some of the most difficult but best times of my life.  We spent time at Disney nearly every week, and bonded over trips to the Science Center and weekly dinner dates.  We have a special bond and I am so grateful for every work he has done in my life.  I try to remind myself of that every time he cocks his middle school attitude.
