Before D23 Expo, I had never been to Disneyland or Disney’s California Adventure.
I had kind of low expectations because I’m a Walt Disney World Resort gal, all the freaking way, so I wasn’t expecting to completely fall in love with Disneyland and have the time of my life at California Adventure.
I think having the opportunity to see Captain America & Falcon in the flesh kind of helped, because RAWR!
But it didn’t hurt that Mission: Breakout, staring my favorite Marvel characters was a badass ride that left me feeling a little left out since we’re still stuck with Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios. No disrespect, Tower of Terror, you’ll always hold a special place in my heart, but Mission: Breakout just has you beat.
Hands down, you can’t touch this.
Much of the park is decorated in a Summer of Heroes theme, which filled me with pride, because, well – duh. My name is Summer so obviously they were talking about me.
Here are a few of the reasons you should find your way to Anaheim, California before September 10, 2017 when the Summer of Heroes theme will go back to its superhero lair.
1. Mission: Breakout is the Best Ride EVER
It features The Collector from the Guardians of the Galaxy films, played by Benecio Del Toro, a as well as your favorite Guardians.
Everything from the queue to the room where you meet the sly Rocket Raccoon in person to the actual ride is completely themed to the Guardians of the Galaxy, right down to music chosen by James Gunn himself.
I won’t lie, I don’t remember which song played during my ride because I was having WAY too much fun watching the storyline play out while being tossed up and down in the ride. My favorite part was the amount of air time my booty got during our journey. My second favorite thing was that I fit in the seat without any hip spillage. Winning.
My third favorite thing was the fact that this ride even exists and that, in true Disney fashion, they went above and beyond with the storytelling, the props, and the special effects. Definitely a two-thumbs-up ride.
2. Because – Hero Up, dude!
One of my new favorite quotes is “Woman Up”, but at Summer of Heroes, we were told to “Hero Up”. On the heels of some pretty sweet superhero movies, I feel like it’s important to remember that we all have something heroic to offer the world, you just have to know what your gifts are in order to tap into them and use them for good. So Hero Up, dudes!
3. Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off
Literally, a dance-off between Star Lord and Gamora to the sweet tracks from Peter Quill’s Awesome Mix Tapes. You could even jump in on the action. Think you have what it takes? I personally think I could teach Star Lord a thing or two about hip shaking.
4. Groot Bread & Spider-Man Donuts
Groot Bread is a sourdough loaf with black olives for eyes and jalapeno-cheddar hair. It was a little tough to chew, just like a good sourdough. It would be perfect for your littles who need something to keep them busy during long wait times for rides.
Real Talk: I didn’t even get to lay eyes on a Spider-Man donut, which means I’m going to have to find a reason to get back to Anaheim like next month, because my spidey senses need a little boost.
5. Avengers Training Initiative
In this live show, you can cheer on aspiring young Super Heroes as they are led through a series of activities to measure their readiness to join the Avengers.
Young recruits ages 6 to 12 participate in the show along with Black Widow and Hawkeye―and just may find themselves Avenger trainees, much like Jedi Training at Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL.
Enjoy all of these, and other Summer of Heroes experiences through September 10, 2017.
