I can’t possibly be the only person who thought Pete’s dragon’s name was Pete for like half their life, right? I mean, I watched Pete’s Dragon when I was a kid, and I knew his name was Elliot when I watched the movie, but no, his name was always Pete when I was talking about him. I look back and shudder at the eye rolls at my know-it-all self calling Elliot the wrong thing.
On August 12, Pete’s Dragon is reimagined for the big screen and this time Elliot is a real dragon, not a cartoon one.
OK, well maybe not a REAL dragon, but a computer animated dragon that looks like a real dragon, pretty cool, right?
Pete is an orphan and Elliot is his best friend. They live in the woods of the Pacific Northwest (which, incidentally, is where I’m from, only I grew up in a city). Tales of the dragon have been told by Mr. Meacham, played by Robert Redford, for years, but Elliot chooses to reveal himself to Pete, played by Oakes Fegley.
Grace Meacham, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, knows the stories as tall tales, but begins to find truth in them after meeting Pete. Grace sets out to figure out who Pete is and where he belongs with the help of a local 11 year old girl named Natalie, and along the way they discover magic.
