I love entertaining. I live to entertain. Having a house full of family and friends who stay for days on end gives me life.
Wait. Wrong blog.
Having house guests actually gives me a little anxiety. I loved it before I had five million kids and a Great Dane. I loved it when I was confident in my homemaking skills and before I started working from home. I was confident that the sheets wouldn’t smell like they lingered in the washing machine just a little too long and that there wouldn’t be any spit splatter art on the bathroom mirror immediately after washing it.
I love going to people’s homes and finding little baskets of love made up for our welcome. I love it when they have little toothpaste tubes, new toothbrushes, mini deodorants, and some chocolates in my welcome basket. It’s the coolest thing ever. WHY can’t I be like that? Instead it’s all:
“Hey! Welcome to my abode! Here’s some dog hair and rancid sheets. Enjoy your stay!”
Having your house guests come to your house and start cleaning is kinda embarrassing, and even worse is when they leave a little less healthy than they came. You guys know how kids are just germ-infested cesspools, right? Your guests know it too. And they want to make sure to have a healthy vacation. It’s a bit of a shame we can’t ship the kids off when people come to stay, amiright? Talk about a healthy and stress free vacation!
Since that’s not realistic, and because the grandparents actually come to see the kids, not me (I know, RUDE!), I figured I’d do my best this year to come up with a way to make sure they left here better than they came. Coming to stay in a beach town and having to stay with us isn’t nearly as sweet as staying at an oceanfront hotel, but I can do Bed & Breakfast with the best of them!
I’m going to turn down for what. I mean, turn down for my guests. And by turn down I mean change the sheets, put a little chocolate on their pillow, and give them a basket of goodies that will make them feel like they’re bed and breakfasting it.
The rest of the house might be crawling with crazies, but their room will be quiet and serene.
My turn down basket comes complete with clean washcloths, new soap, mini his & hers deodorants, a magazine, some of my favorite chocolates, a refreshing sheet spray, Ester-C , a little hair brush, and little hair products for them to use while they’re visiting.
Going away on vacation shouldn’t be stressful, and you should always know you’re going to leave healthier than when you arrived, which is exactly what my turn down basket is all about. Relaxing and staying healthy. I want to support their fun and their immune systems, which is the easy part. Ester-C is my little secret weapon for supporting immune health , so it’s only right of me to share, right? I mean, I can’t give my guests round-the-clock attention, but I can give them round-the-clock immune support .
Now, run to Walmart’s vitamin aisle, pick up some Ester-C and these other little goodies so you can be the Hostess with the Mostess.
Now to keep the pesky kids from climbing into bed with our house guests at 5:30am, that’s another story.
